JEFF ROTHSTEIN

‘You transform black and white urban figures into a magical, poignant, at times, nearly abstract, network of expressive bodies, evoking their time and space. The vividness and spirit of the NY street scene come alive. I think your street shots are brilliant — appearing casual, but, in fact, filled with a paradoxical magnitude of intimacy combined with historical empathy.’    Robert Morgan, art historian, and critic

A native Brooklynite, and living in Manhattan for many years, Rothstein has been shooting New York City since the dawn of the 1970s.

Wandering the streets with my 35mm cameras loaded with b&w film, I consider myself an urban observer. I try to capture the city’s environment – structures, signs and, most of all, the fleeting moments of people on the streets that will soon disappear into thin air.

My photos have appeared in numerous publications, including Street Photographers Notebook, SHOTS, New York Alive, Our Town, Bijutsu Techo, The Shin Bijutsu Shinbun, Hyperallergic, and Art Asia Pacific, and illustrated such exhibition catalogs as YES Yoko Ono, 6SQFT, Over the Edges, and Hori Kosai...’ read more on Rothstein’s website. With regards to print sales and all queries, contact here. Please quote ‘Helen Jones-Florio Gallery
