Muhammad Ali, New York City, February 1971
‘I was shooting a college basketball game at Madison Square Garden for my university newspaper. During the pregame warm-ups, Ali unexpectedly appeared on the court, seemingly out of nowhere. His first championship fight with Joe Frazier was coming up, so he was no doubt there for some promotion. Unfortunately, the negatives are long gone, but luckily I still have a print I made at the time. This image was scanned from the print‘ Jeff Rothstein.

Photographers We Love!
‘Wandering the streets with my 35mm cameras loaded with b&w film, I consider myself an urban observer. I try to capture the city’s environment – structures, signs and, most of all, the fleeting moments of people on the streets that will soon disappear into thin air’ Jeff Rothstein
